Crazy John 29.4.

Wappu is soon here and, with it, the highly anticipated Crazy John event!

Two days before Wappu, on the night of the 29th of April, after the sun has set on the Fuksipeijaiset, Otaniemi is filled with riveting Wappu action as the Crazy John (Hullu Jussi) event starts! This year, each team collects stamps from checkpoints (kind of like in a pub crawl) to earn the official Crazy John overall badge! The number of overall badges that you receive is determined by the number of checkpoints you have visited. People who have visited 5 checkpoints get one badge, 10 checkpoints earn you two badges, and if you have visited more than 15 checkpoints, you will get three badges! The badges are linked to one another, so you should definitely try to get all three. In addition to the overall badges, the team with the best attitude and spirit is rewarded ceremoniously with a Wappu basket during the Declaration of the Wappu Frenzy! So be quick when completing the checkpoints, but also remember to keep your spirits high!

Crazy John starts with the Great Launch of the Mystical Yöjäynä at 9pm in the Alvari Square. In the Great Launch the whole community is able to cheer their representative teams to their nightly adventure. After the Great Launch the participants of Crazy John can start their own adventure through Otaniemi.

The fun doesn’t stop after visiting the checkpoints, however, because Pelmu is organizing the official afterparty, the Wappu Festival! The event is free and open to all.

So gather yourself a team of 4-10 people and claim your spot in this crazy adventure around Otaniemi! You don’t need to have a team assembled beforehand: you can pick up the checkpoint sheet in front of the AYY Central Office on the same day after the Fuksispeksi.

If you think you’ve already visited enough checkpoints during the years and have had your fill, you should definitely come and hold a checkpoint yourself! If your group of friends or association has an idea and the passion to organize a checkpoint, let us know through the link below by the 25th of April:
https://lomake.ayy.fi/teekkarijaosto/hullu-jussi-2018-rastit-crazy-john-2018-checkpoints/

Crazy John is worth experiencing just for the fantastic prizes! Each active participant will be awarded at least one overall badge, and the best checkpoint and the team with the best spirit are both rewarded with awesome Wappu baskets as well as a bus ride to Ullanllinanmäki on Wappu Eve on the 1st of May. The keepers of the best checkpoint are also awarded a free AYY rentable sauna space for one day (has to be used by the end of the year).

The winners will be declared from the roof of Smökki during the Declaration of the Wappu Frenzy on the 30th of April

The show is followed by awarding the several winners of wappu competitions, accompanied by Retuperän WBK’s dance rhythms.

Participant Call EASA deadline 22.4.

Participant Call for the Croatian EASA in the Finnish team is now open!! Application deadline is 22.4. at 23.59!

WHAT IS EASA?

EASA is short for European Architecture Students’ Assembly. It gathers 500 architecture students annually to meet each other for two weeks and to make architecture workshops together. EASA is organised for architecture students by architecture students.
This year EASA takes place in Rijeka, Croatia on 21.7. – 4.8.
During these 14 days the EASAians form a utopian community which maintains itself – nearly 500 students and professionals work, study, rest, cook, eat, clean and live together. There are participants, tutors, organizers, helpers and guests. The event focuses mostly on the workshops – taking up the majority of time. The event program is essentially packed with lectures, conducted by professionals from divergent spheres of activity, also strongly related to the theme. Exhibitions, open discussions, intuitive one-day workshops and spontaneous performances further investigate the questions arising during the two weeks.

The cost of the event for the Finnish team members is 300 €, which includes accommodation, workshops and other program (excluding the possible excursions) and three meals every day.

HOW TO APPLY TO THE FINNISH TEAM AS A PARTICIPANT?

This years theme is RE:EASA. RE is a prefix, occurring originally in loanwords from Latin, used with the meaning ‘again’ or ‘back’. RE means acknowledging the presently or formerly existing and acting upon it. RE is dealing with the past or present to sort things out for the future. RE is aware of the circular nature of reality and interconnection of things. RE tackles the matter at hand for the sake of revealing a different kind of order or value.

Your task is to choose your “RE:____” and implement it on a subject of your choice. You may use the format/media of any kind (essay, poster, music, video, a recording of a performance …) You should submit your solution attached to an email to easancfinland@gmail.com by 22.4. Name your application: FINLAND_NAME_LASTNAME_RE:TERM
Write on the email also your full name, phone number and the school you study (or studied) in.
After the selection the chosen participants will get an email confirmation and their names and applications will be posted on the EASA Finland Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/EASAFinland/)

If there are any questions considering the event or applying, please send them to the same email address.

Good luck and hope to see you in Rijeka!
