Hello and a lovely warm august,
Congratulations to all the new freshmen and welcome back to the already experienced arkkari- maisu- and sissari students! I hope everyone has had a nice summer and you are all ready for a new start, as entries are starting to appear again in the guild’s event calendar.
The highly anticipated orientation week for the freshmen is starting, and with it, the whole of Otaniemi is slowly waking up from its summer hibernation. If you prefer to snooze, don’t worry, there are still a few more weeks before summer is officially over. Only when the next newsletter comes, is when the autumn semester really starts.
Until then, see you on campus (or not),
♥

The legendary Product Development Project (PdP) course is coming again!
What happens when you give interdisciplinary student teams real industry problems, 10 000€ budget and 9 months time to develop their ideas into products? Whether you are from TECH, BIZ, ARTS or any other background, we welcome you to answer that question.
Too often you hear from the company recruiters that the graduating students aren’t ready for the worklife, and we want to change that. The idea of PdP is to provide students a unique chance to put their learnings to practise and give you real experience you will need in the working life.
You’ll learn how to:
- Communicate and collaborate with other disciplines
- Apply your own background in innovating real products
- Navigate the development process
- Work in a large, interdisciplinary team
- Take responsibility by becoming the Project Manager
- Build big things
Each PdP team has a company sponsor, who provides a real problem, budget and support. There are projects from many fields varying each year, typically including medical, design, IT, and engineering!
Interested? Check out previous projects and find more information at pdp.fi and the PdP MyCourses page.
Become a changemaker and join us for the first lecture on 4.9. 15.15 at the Design Factory Stage for the opening lecture!.

Tempaus 2024: 21.10. – 27.10.
The Tempaus Command of the Engineer with a sturdy beard, Sheryl Tokyo, and Kunniamursu was read at Aalto Open Air and the Declaration of Wappu Madness. The theme of Tempaus is now clear: increasing the appreciation of volunteer work in Finland.
As the economy tightens, workplace productivity has become increasingly crucial. Nevertheless, we should not forget about work for which you cannot set a price. Volunteer work cuts across the entire Finnish society and has been evident in the community spirit throughout history. It also holds significant value. It is ultimately about caring for others and genuine altruism, which are also reflected in small daily acts. Many of us engage in volunteer work by donating blood, cleaning up litter from nature, or participating in sports club activities. In our view, volunteer work today does not receive the appreciation it deserves in society.
We invite the entire Aalto community to pay attention to all the volunteer work being done in Finland. Let’s bring up everyone’s efforts together! The preliminary dates for Tempaus are 21–27 Oct, when we will mobilise in large numbers to campaign within cooperative associations.
