Polin Appro – tickets for sale 24.9.

This year 7th of November, Polin Appro will journey in a time machine and bedazzle, enchant and exhilarate the overall-wearing population more vigorously than ever! This legendary and Finland’s biggest bar crawl, led by Aalto people, brings together the whole overall-wearing population – all who are students and student-spirited. The Appro is organised during the Teekkari Tradition Week and takes place near the Old Poly building. At the Appro, participants collect performance stamps by visiting partnering bars. Based on the number of stamps collected during the evening, you will be awarded an overall badge at the afterparty. Take part in the fantastically hyperbolic Appro evening and dance to the top artists’ tune at the afterparty!

The teams depart gradually between 16.00 – 19.00 from DTM (Mannerheimintie 6b) and have until 11pm to finish the crawl. The afterparty starts at Apollo Live Club (Mannerheimintie 16) at 9pm.

This year the theme of Polin appro is Back to the Future, so we recommend you to dress up as the person you were.

Tickets can be bought from the ticket sale points or from bailataan.fi. The ticket sale times and places will be updated to the Facebook event later. The ticket costs 14 euros and they  include the afterparty cloakroom fee.
(Bailataan.fi service fee 0,40€)

Street Art workshop 25.9.

Have you ever looked at the graffitis on the fences of construction sites or the walls of underpasses and wondered how cool would it be to try and paint one? Now you have the chance! Grab a can and come try the limits of your creativity at Aava and TOKYO’s Street Art workshop.

In this workshop you’ll be able to try spraypainting with the guidance of a professional on tuesday 25th of September at Alvari square from 16:00 o’clock onwards. The workshop goes on non-stop, and the art will be painted on a temporary wall which will be put up for this event. The spray paints and the necessary protective gear will be offered to all participants for free. However, there’s always a chance for the accidental splatter or staining of shoes and clothes, so please dress accordingly.

Come and see pitches and demos from VTT’s researchers about their innovative science-based solutions to global challenges, e.g. from the Meriroskahaaste-awarded PlastBug-team on how they are fighting plastic waste in the ocean: https://www.iltalehti.fi/kotimaa/201808282201164867_u0.shtml.

You thought research was boring? Think again! An exciting panel discussion will dig deep on how applied science is transformed into world changing innovations and business! Afterwards, we will all head down to Fat Lizard for some (self-paid) beers!

Presenting: Culture tip of the week

The Guild’s culture section wants to encourage students to participate in culture events also outside of Aalto. That’s why, starting from this week, you may find tips for various culture events (exhibitions, music, movies etc.) around the metropolitan area in
the weekly newsletter of the Guild. We want this to be like a locals’ guide so that you can enjoy your hometown to the fullest! There might not be tips every single week but we hope they are still useful.

First ever culture tip of the week:
Rakkautta & Anarkiaa, Helsinki International Film Festival 20.9. – 30.9.
