On Shrove Tuesday, 28.2., it’s time to find you something that passes for a sled and head on over to Ullanlinnanmäki (Iso Puistotie 1, Helsinki)! The most daring and ambitious take part in the legendary downhill race, where teams pilot their homemade sleds down the Ullanlinnanmäki hillside in the hope of winning the grand prize! They are judged by not only on their run’s distance, but also on creativity and showmanship. Welcome to plan and create the most epic sled for the Guild of Architecture at the guild room.

Wed 8.2. Rome – Mapping time: Exhibition Opening
The theme of the architectural history research course in spring 2016 was the eternal city of Rome, with Professor Aino Niskanen and architect Juhana Heikonen as teachers. We looked in particular at how the world’s most fascinating urban structure is the result of overlapping events, even disasters, and how the past can be glimpsed in different ways in the existing urban fabric.
During the course the students undertook a map assignment, with the division of assignments marked on a contemporary map. In addition to references, the extra material included measurements and maps from different periods going back to the Forma Urbis Romae marble fragments from ancient Rome. The temporal milestones in the map assignments were the years 300, 1000 and 1500 AD. Each of the eight student participants explored the changes in functions and construction in their own assignment area. The exhibition shows results of the work.

Thu 9.2. Numbers-seminaari
Professor Trevor Harris’s “leaving” seminar, entitled “Numbers” will take place in the A-auditorium of the Main Building of the Aalto University campus from 12.30 until 19.30 on February 9th. You are all most cordially welcome. The Departure of Architecture will not be organising any other teaching that afternoon so that both students and staff can attend.
The invited speakers will be significant thinkers and practitioners from the fields of Mathematics, Geometry, Music, Astronomy, Philosophy as well as Architecture. The idea for this gathering is based on my conjecture that the ancient Quadrivium approach to an advanced learning curriculum as a fundamental foundation for educating architects, designers and artists might still be worth exploring and maybe reinterpreting in the 21st century.
Fri-Sun 10.2.-12.12. Cabin working weekend
You are all warmly welcomed to come and join in the volunteering and the great recess activities that take place at the Cabin from 10th to 12th of February! ENROLL HERE: CLICK!!!.
