YOU TELL ME -SYMPOSIUM

“In ancient Greece, the symposium (Greek: συμπόσιον symposion or symposio, from συμπίνειν sympinein, ”to drink together”) was a part of a banquet that took place after the meal, when drinking for pleasure was accompanied by music, dancing, recitals, or conversation. Literary works that describe or take place at a symposium include two Socratic dialogues, Plato’s Symposium and Xenophon’s Symposium, as well as a number of Greek poems such as the elegies of Theognis of Megara. Symposia are depicted in Greek and Etruscan art that shows similar scenes.

In modern usage, it has come to mean an academic conference or meeting such as a scientific conference. The equivalent of a Greek symposium in Roman society is the Latin convivium.”

Our time is faced with many challenges: climate change, overuse of resources, destruction of ecosystems etc. Tackling these challenges demands a paradigm change. We want to encourage open discussion that challenges the current paradigm among students of architecture, landscape architecture and interior architecture, young professionals from the field or anyone who is interested.

Welcome to the You Tell Me -Symposium. This is not one of your up tight seminars but rather an event that encourages discussion and participation. To help us start the paradigm change, promoters of sustainable construction Suoja ry and VAPAA collective among others will be sharing their thoughts. The more detailed program will be shared in this event later.

Our goal is that the good ideas will not stay just in the event but that we can rather launch a movement of discussion and peer learning in the field of architecture. We will also offer tools for introducing peer learning in your study or work environment. Join us and let’s change the world!

What: Symposium about the paradigm change of architecture
Where: Lapinlahden Lähde
When: Saturday 30.11. 12:00-16:00
Why: This is your chance to discuss your hopes and concerns in an open environment and find peer support for the paradigm change.

APPLY TO DEEP – MICROPLASTIC CHALLENGE

Plastic waste, including microplastics in oceans is one of the biggest environmental challenges we are currently facing. New solutions, sustainable services and business concepts are needed to protect our environment and to keep our water clean.

DEEP is a hackathon that is focused on developing innovative solutions to prevent marine littering. DEEP calls for applications both from groups and individuals ready to create concrete solutions.

We want to bring together students, researchers, entrepreneurs and other enthusiasts to co-create solutions for preventing microplastics from polluting the Baltic sea. Apply as a team or an individual by the 19th of November 2019: https://hkithinkco.typeform.com/to/oEboRe

AUTUMN CONCERTS OF THE POLYTECH ORCHESTRA IN KAUNIAINEN AND TEMPPELIAUKIO CHURCH

This autumn, the Polytech Orchestra performs melodic rarities of the classical music repertoire. The concert begins with works by French composers: the riotous Bacchanale from the opera Samson and Delilah by Camille Saint-Saëns, and the beautiful Piano Concerto by Francis Poulenc. The hypnotic harmonies of Poulenc’s rarely performed masterpiece are interpreted by pianist Aron Schulman from the Polytech Orchestra. The final number of the concert is Vasili Kalinnikov’s First Symphony, which melts away the frost of autumn with its heart-warming, wistful melodies.
