Otaniemi Night of Arts 6.10.

Aalto University Student Union AYY combines forces with student organisations and sets up Otaniemi Night of Arts, an interartistic art festival, on Saturday 6 Oct. Free event is aimed at all residents of the metropolitan area.

Otaniemi Night of Arts is a new kind of art festival organised for the first time on the Otaniemi campus of Aalto University. The event, taking place on Saturday this week, is characterised by student initiative and a broad conception of art.

The festival consists of more than 50 independent subevents organised by Aalto University students and other members of the Aalto community. The event is coordinated by the Student Union.

“The range of the events makes Otaniemi the leading arts district in Espoo, at least for a day. Otaniemi will become the Berlin of Espoo,” announces Julius Luukkanen, who is in charge of artistic activities on the Board of Aalto University Student Union, with a twinkle in his eye.

Traditional, experimental and surprising art in the programme

All of the more than 50 events in the Otaniemi Night of Arts programme are free of charge. The first events start at 1.30 in the afternoon, and there is plenty of activity around the campus until the early hours.

The programme includes, for example, music from rap to traditional student choirs, dance, media art – and some more unusual works of art, such as a painting to be collectively coloured in using paintball guns. Many of the subevents, such as the art tapestry and ukulele workshops, are suitable for the whole family.

The detailed programme and schedule of the festival can be found at http://bit.ly/OtaniemenYoOhjelma.

TEK looking for students who

are doing Master’s Thesis

Master’s thesis, the final boss of the M.Sc. (Tech) degree. The only thing left standing between you and your happy life as a graduate. Getting this close to finishing your degree you tend to find some superhuman abilities to get the job done even though there might be quite a few obstacles and difficulties along the way.

The life phase of doing your master’s degree is often more difficult than it needs to be. TEK wishes to gain deeper understanding of this life phase to support it better. We are seeking for 5-10 volunteers (of which a couple of non-Finnish volunteers would be nice) to self document their daily life for one week. The documentation is a structured process in which you will be given daily and week-long assignments that take around 20 minutes of your time per day. In addittion the task includes a wrap-up interview that takes about one hour. We have selected the assignments to support your long-term career and life planning so it will also be a usefull process for you personally. The volunteers are also rewarded with an 80 euro gift card of your choosing to either S- or K-group stores or verkkokauppa.com.

The volunteers can sign up by contacting me via phone, email or telegram. You can also get more information about this through the same channels. We are looking for volunteers in different stages of their master’s thesis work and fill the spots as soon as we find the appropriate candidates.

Best Wishes,
Jussi-Pekka Teini
